PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS City of New Orleans outdoor flags are USA made of nylon flag material and are finished with a canvas heading and two brass grommets on the hoist side, 2 rows of stitching top and bottom sides and 4 rows of stitching on the fly side. They are attached to the flagpole by means of a halyard (rope) and flag snaps, or to smaller poles with flag fasteners. Standard sizes for outdoor international flags are 2x3 ft, 3x5 ft, 4x6 ft, 5x8 ft. and 6x10 ft. Outdoor flags are available in larger sizes made to order. City of New Orleans indoor / parade flags with or without fringe, are made to order (1-2 weeks). Available in 3x5 ft and 4x6 ft. nylon, and feature a pole sleeve with a flannel liner and a tab sewn inside the sleeve. The tab attaches to a hook or screw a top of the parade or display flagpole to keep the flag from sliding down the pole. Indoor and parade flags are finished with two-inch gold rayon fringe. These flags are also available with no fringe. City of New Orleans desktop flags are available as custom made. Minimum order is 125 pieces, with price breaks at 250 and 500 pieces. Table top bases are available in black plastic to display from 1- 7 flags. Wood bases are available with either 10 holes or 12 holes to display additional flags. FLAG DESCRIPTION / HISTORY Year Adopted: 1918 The City of New Orleans flag consists of three gold fleur-de-lis arranged in a triangular pattern, two centered higher, one centered lower, on white field framed by a red horizontal band along the top edge and a blue horizontal band along the bottom edge. The red, white and blue colors match the colors of the flags of both the United States and France. The gold fleur-de-lis are borrowed from traditional French fleur-de-lis flags. The City of New Orleans flag was adopted by the Commission Council February 5, 1918 in honor of the City's Bi-Centennial. Historic French Fleur-de-Lis Flags The city of New Orleans roots began with French settlers in 1718. The territory was traded by King Louis XV to Spain in 1762 . After devastating fires in both 1788 and 1794, much of the French Quarter was rebuilt by the Spanish. Street names in the French Quarter are still identified by both French and Spanish signs. Control was ceded back to France in 1801, but sold two years later with the entire Louisiana Territory, by Emporer Napoleon to the United States in 1803. (ref; neworleanscvb.com, New Orleans History)
