FLAG DESCRIPTION / HISTORY The Tauton flag was raised in the town of Taunton, Massachusetts in 1774 as a symbol of colonial protest prior to the American Revolution. The flag was a warning to the British that the American Colonies wanted equal treatment as citizens of the British Empire. The words “Liberty and Union” called for the rights of English citizens (no taxation with representation) and a Colonial union to address their concerns. |
